Triquetrappy new year !

Hello Everyone,

The Suntrip Team wishes you a fantastic new year 2018 !

So much has happened in2017...OK let's do a small recap first: We started the year like we promised...

Mindsphere - Mental Triplex : Mindream (SUNCDLE06)
VA - Inti (SUNCD45)
K.O.B. - Identity Mash (SUNCD46)

...and finally...

Astral Projection - Let There Be Light EP (SUNCDEP02)

We hope you appreciated the ambient side of Mindsphere, and got a full taste of our new recruits, and new directions from known projects, with Triquetra, Sykespico, Ovnimoon, Morphic Resonance and Celestial Intelligence all featured in "Inti".

In turn, we're a little sad K.O.B. divised the audience more than Filteria. It's underrated in out opinion, as it contains fantastic darker Goa material. Re-listen to it, you'll see...

Naturally Astral Projection kept up to their promises and together with our dear remixers Filteria and Morphic Rsonance, delivered a highly acclaimed piece of joy and enlightenment ! Thanks for all the kind words we received, especially during the Conection Festival when it was just released.

After that, nothing... we'd promised a Ray Castle retrospective (Rhythmystec, Insectoid, Masaray...), the Triquetra album, a Connection compilation, the mysterious SUNCD50 compilation. What happened?

Well, first scheduling releases is not an exact science : Triquetra needed a few extra weeks. As for Ray, dubbing a 20+ year old DAT then shipping it from Australia to Europe, before extracting it can sure take some time. The Connection compilation just didn't happen: compiling takes time, organizing a festival too, and it gets complicated when both are at the same time...

...and that's exactly what we're doing right now as we announced the Apsara Festival to be held from August 8th to 12th in Ludos, Romania, on the ex-Transylvaliens land!

We're disclosing the lineup at a rate of 2 artists per week. You can expect a LOT of surprises in the next weeks :)

Oh by the way, presales are open and we're still in Phase 1 and we're applying a "Social" pricing for residents of countries facing complicated economic conditions. We have ambassadors too. Romania is a beautiful country, so why not come and tour once you've danced like there's no tomorrow ?

The most we'd organized before was a week-end event, that's another beast now and obviously a mountain of work when you have to learn and build everything from scratch. Fortunately some of the ex-Transylvaliens guys are helping us a great deal with...everything. Overall we'll do exactly what we've done since 2004: work hard and harder till your ears are filled with blissful music, till your muscles are propelled by energy waves, till happyness blows your mind !

Just a little background information here: the Apsara team is 5 people: Fabien, Jos "Anoebis", and Chris "Ouwe Gouwe" from Suntrip Records; Remus "Hase" and Theo "Mawski" from ex-Transylvaliens; without forgetting Rodolfo Morais, our graphic designer.. Jos and Chris have switched to a 80% work time, their remaining 20% being spent respectively on Communication/Promotion; and the company's legal things + budget/accountancy; while Fabien has decided to spend 100% of his time on Apsara's technical things, presales+ambassadors, plane tickets, flyers, on-site procedures, Suntrip's next releases of course, and a couple of unrelated projects. Remus and Theo, as native Romanians, are dealing with most of the logistics/crew. Everyone took part to the lineup selection! Since we live in 3 different countries, we're thoroughly using so-called "new technologies" to meet up and share documents. All this would have been impossible only 10 years ago.

Naturally we've created a company to make things legal, we have a realistic budget, we've met the mayor in Ludos who's happy to see a festival on his land again, our uptempo stage lineup is 95% confirmed, downtempo stage lineup 50% complete, deco confirmed (it's awesome), security too, toilets/showers agreement in progress, crews definition and procedures/shifts in progress, we're starting to select shops and volunteers, and the presales are ongoing. So you see we're damn serious and commited. Chris and Fabien are even set on learning Romanian!

We were pleased to receive support from a couple of other festival promoters. Hats off guys, thanks for believing in Goa music and in us!

Oh yes, another 2017 news you may have missed: I wrote above Chris Ouwe Gouwe is now part of Suntrip Records. We're three guys in the core team now (but we'd be nothign without the many great heplers we have). This was high time: he's one of the Old Is Gold / Trance Dimensions / Fractal Gate parties organizers, and long time Suntrip accountant and advisor, ultra square guy and hardcore Goa addict :) He will keep taking care -officially now- of 604 Bookings on top of what he used to do for us.

Suntrip is growing indeed. Not because we want it, because you want it: more music, more parties, more happiness and love mean more work, more responsibilites. It's a little scary as we're at a point where what used to be a night-time occupation is taking up a significant part of our lives (it's 3am as I'm writing this). Probably means we love it. Ah if only Suntrip could pay our rents...

Back to the releases now:

"Ecstatic Planet" is the debut album of one of the most talented goa-trance producers these days: Triquetra! These Belgian twins, Elric & Jurian, are blowing away the scene and played allover the world already, Israel and Japan included! Why? Because their music simply kicks ass! Acidic, uplifting but melodic for all lovers of old school goa-trance! We even heard people making a link with old Cosmosis... Can you handle that? :)

The journey starts with a melodic track, which is supposed to be the Gate to Happiness! Good, because indeed, happiness is imminent: The following tracks are pure blissfull acidic old school goa-trance! A good portion of TB303 & acid sounds, uplifting melodies, old school kicks and an interesting rhythm section! With "Gargantuan Tribes" they take a break from the madness, and show their other side: tribal trance with live didgeridoo and drums! The second part of the album evolves to more typical melodic goa-trance for the morning hours! Many dancefloors already exploded with this music, we hope you will too!

Release date is Janury 22nd, and if you can't hold your breath until then, you better get your hands on the samples on the release page !

Aaah this one is a jewel...One of the most distinguished trail-blazing legends of the nineties Goa movement, Ray Castle, has salvaged his DATs from a rhyzome time capsule stash containing artefacts from a truly revolutionary epoch.

"Mystique Of The Metaverse" is a pedigree selection of tracks resulting from mind-melding sessions at the apogee of Goa trance’s ascension as a multi valiant style of dance music nuanced in metaphysics and cosmos and psyche. And they have been remastered by Tim Schuldt from the original DAT tapes!

DJ-ing in Goa, India, from the late eighties, Ray was able to translate the ultra word “Goa-state-of-mind” into this numinous music, seminal to psychedelic-intentioned dance music for wilderness settings.

Game changer, Rhthmystec, is testimony to his long-term relationship with Nick Taylor and what was happening in Byron Bay in the mid-nineties.

An artistic catalyser in Japan from the late eighties, he made parties and collaboratively conjured tracks. Time Traveller Of Trance was channeled with Masayuki Kurihara above his family restaurant, to become a Goa masterpiece, now reanimated with JoyfullNative’s stellar remix.

In the Roland robot kingdom, under the spell the far East, he had visions of a “neuro tribe” with Susumu Yokota and Take Tokuda, out of which came the Sonic Sufi sessions.

Deep in the Australian bush, together with Nick Spacetree and Mark Turner, he engaged in rituals and field recordings in the company of disembodied spirits and extra-terrestrials. These paranormal, and out of the body, experiences are Insectoid.

In the great Suntrip mixup tradition, this SUNCD47 will be released on February 14th, after Triquetra's SUNCD48, and guess what ? I just made the samples available on the release page.

Still here ?
Morphic Resonance's second album, codename SUNCD49 is next. It's almost ready and it will kick your ass in your bedroom as surely as it did at Connection. Expect the massage in April.

Then we have no other choice but to release our "mythic" SUNCD50 compilation during spring before Apsara :)
The concept:

  • CD1: Sunshine Goa
  • CD2: Darker Goa
  • CD3: <surprise-surprise>

We're already selecting tracks but don't hesitate to submit some more promos!

We seriously have no idea of what we'll release in the second semester, we just know several other artists are still working on their new albums: Celestial Intelligence (2nd album), Cosmic Dimension (2nd album), Merr0w (2nd album "Odysseus"), Mindsphere (the 3rd "Mental Triplex")... We sure hope the prospect of seeing you dance at Apsara will give them extra motivation !!!!

Have a sweet sweet year 2018 and see you on the dancefloor!
